Mission and Vision of the Foundation

“Foundation for History and Heritage Studies” has been founded and registered as a charitable trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 by bandana Sarma & Rajib Sarma with a mission to undertake systematic research, documentation, conservation of rare materials related to the Kamakhya Temple and temples of Kamakhya Temples’ Complex and other temples intrinsically linked with Kamakhya located in and around Guwahati, as well as in erstwhile Kamrup.

The Foundation has been created as a common & open research platform, reference library and archive for Scholars, Students, Journalists and curious Public.

Research Objectives and Documentation

The primary vision, mission and objective of the organization is to promote exploratory study, research, documentation, research compilation, publication, translation, conservation / preservation of rare materials activities related to the Kamakhya Temple and temples of Kamakhya Temples’ Complex and other temples intrinsically linked with Kamakhya located in and around Guwahati, as well as in erstwhile Kamrup.

Establishment of the Centre for Tantra Studies

The Foundation has also established the “Centre for Tantra Studies” at Kamakhya as an interdisciplinary research Centre with the primary aim and objective to undertake intensive research and documentation on the Kulachara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya and bring together both scholars and practitioners of the various Schools & Sects of Tantra for a comparative exploratory, analytical, critical, constructive and in-depth research, documentation on the Tantra Tradition of Kamakhya.

The reference library of the Foundation located at Kamakhya containing 25000+ hard copies and 15000+ soft copies of rare books, monographs, journals, documents, manuscripts, maps, etc. and a sizable number of these are related to Kamakhya.

The archive of the Foundation located at Kamakhya contains 150+ ancient handwritten manuscripts, documents, copper plates on Ritual Practice, Tantra, Religious Philosophy, Applied Ritual References, etc. mostly related to Kamakhya.


Digital Preservation and Ongoing Projects

The Foundation is also undertaking the digitization of hard copies of the rare published materials and ancient handwritten manuscripts, documents, etc. related to Kamakhya and other temples intrinsically linked with Kamakhya located in and around Guwahati, as well as in erstwhile Kamrup.
