Kamakhya as the Birthplace of Shakta Tantrism

Kamakhya Temples’ Complex is widely recognized as the birthplace of a unique stream of Shakta Tantrism, the Kulachara Tantra Marga. The Kulachara Tantra Marga has evolved and developed over many centuries under the primary care of the Guru of the lineage and Kamakhya Kula (Shebait of Kamakhya). Under the care of the Shebait of Kamakhya, the tradition has been maintained for many hundreds of years with a tolerant and secular social value that characterize the socio-religious culture of the Kamakhya.
Kulachara Tantra Marga – A Unique Shakta Tantrika Tradition
The Kul acara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya has evolved and taken shape as a unique Shakta Tantrika Tradition and is the only surviving Tantra marga in the world in its purest form. The teachings, rituals and techniques of the Kul acara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya have been very carefully kept as guarded secret by the initiates till date. The tradition runs through the system of Guru-Shishya Parampara at Kamakhya (teacher-student tradition) and most of the knowledge and technique is passed down orally to an initiate by his/her Guru (teacher).
Oral Tradition and Knowledge Transmission
Essentially, Tantra Studies at Kamakhya and Spiritual Studies of Kamakhya has always remained confined within the Gurus of Kamakhya and the members of the Kamakhya Kula (the Kamakhya lineage) as an oral tradition since centuries.

Even though, the Kul acara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya has remained bold and firm in its existence since centuries, very limited systematic initiatives has been taken towards Tantra Studies at Kamakhya and hence, very limited research-based information is available on the Kamakhya Kula (the Kamakhya lineage), Gurus of Kamakhya, Kamakhya Tantra, Yogini Tantra, Kalika Purana.
Establishing the Centre for Tantra Studies at Kamakhya
Therefore, being members of the Kamakhya Kula and initiates of the Kulachara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya, we feel that, time has come to established the “Centre for Tantra Studies” at Kamakhya as an interdisciplinary research Centre with the primary aim and objective to undertake intensive research and documentation on the Kulachara Tantra Marga of Kamakhya and bring together both scholars and practitioners of the various Schools & Sects of Tantra for a comparative exploratory, analytical, critical, constructive and in-depth research, documentation on the Tantra Tradition of Kamakhya.
